How to play
- Each day you get five real items from British history, with the year they’re from — a pint of bitter in 1973, a first-class stamp in 1990, a colour telly in 1975.
- Type what you think it cost. Everyday items are guessed in pence (529 means £5.29); big-ticket items switch to pounds.
- Traffic lights score you: green within 10%, amber within 50%, red for way off. Ten points is a perfect day.
- Share your result with friends and family — no spoilers, just your colours — and keep your daily streak alive.
Where the prices come from
Every price in Costalgia is real and documented — drawn from sources including the Office for National Statistics average-price series, the British Beer & Pub Association’s handbooks, Royal Mail’s historic stamp prices, UK cinema industry figures and the archives of everyday shop prices. No made-up numbers, ever. Some of the real answers are far stranger than anything we could invent.
